Reminders & tips
Just wanted to send everyone some reminders and tips. Since we do not grow in a green house nor do we use any conventional pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, there are a couple things to remember for the best enjoyment of your veggies.
If produce is not kept cold it can pass quickly. Leafy greens should be soaked in cold water to refresh them then kept in the crisper (adding a damp tea towel or paper towel can help keep them fresh longer). Carrots, turnips, and other root vegetables that come with tops attached should be stored with the tops removed to avoid the leaves sucking moisture from the root.
There can sometimes be insect damage or insects in the produce. We check everything as it is picked, rinsed (if applicable), and packed but sometimes critters still hitch a ride. Please make sure you are soaking all leafy greens or cabbage (helps refresh them and get rid of any insects), and rinsing all produce before eating.
Our potatoes (which we should have going forward) are unwashed as they keep better this way. Keep them in a cool dark place. Do not peel, the skin is thin and will just need a rinse. The new potatoes are great for roasting or boiling.
Our produce may sometimes be 'artistic' and not a 'runway model' vegetable, but should still have great taste and nutrition. Check out the 'inglorious' fruits campaign for more this philosophy.
